http://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/110

Javanese campursari is one of the identical kinds of music for Indonesian people even for Javanese people. This type of music has some characteristics such as containing light lyrics, sometimes using comedy or parody, and varying a kind of specific gesture or goyangan. A problem occurred when a symbol of the historical entity who was an ancestor of ulama/great religious spreader namely Prabu Jaka Tingkir or Mas Karebet or Sultan Hadiwijaya was used as contain of musical parody. The current researcher decided to embrace an anthropological study, especially the theory of linguistic relativity in exploring this social polemic by taking three components for example as language, language users, and worldview. Some YouTube channel sources were taken as primary data sources while other links to popular news articles would be also secondary data. The qualitative technique and contextual approach were engaged as data analysis techniques. Hence, a technique of content analysis by stepping three components such coding selection, classifying unit, and explaining contextual analysis. According to those analyses, the newest researcher concluded that the young generation has only limited insight into historical symbols in Indonesia so a specific material of historical entity was needed to be inserted in the basic curriculum.
Kharisma Puspita

http://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/121

Exercising freedom of choice must always be accompanied by responsibility. However, freedom is never absolute, as it is bounded by facticity arising from social conditions, relationships with others, and existing norms. This research examines Jen Wang’s The Prince and the Dressmaker, which depicts Prince Sebastian’s dual identity as both a royal heir and his alter ego, Lady Crystallia. As the sole heir to the throne, Prince Sebastian is expected to uphold traditional norms, social expectations, and royal duties imposed by society. Despite these constraints, he chooses to express himself as Lady Crystallia at night, wandering the city and exploring fashion as a form of self-expression. This choice reflects his freedom while simultaneously revealing the limitations imposed by his social position and responsibilities. The study demonstrates that morals, norms, and rules are not intended to eliminate individual freedom but to emphasize that one person’s freedom is shaped and limited by the freedom of others. Drawing on Sartre’s existentialist concepts—such as absurdity, the look, authenticity, meaning, and bad faith—this research reveals Prince Sebastian’s divided existence. Ultimately, he embodies two identities: one constrained by societal norms and another representing his pursuit of authenticity and meaning in life.

Fransiska Tri AyuDian Eka Sari

http://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/113

This study examines speech acts of suggestive language in individuals experiencing anxiety disorders within hypnotherapy practice. The research investigates the types of speech acts used during hypnosis sessions with a client experiencing anxiety. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, grounded in speech act theory by Austin (1962), Searle (1969), and Wijana (1996). Data were collected using the observation method. We presented he findings informally, explaining the results in the author's own words. We obtained from a single hypnotherapy session involving a client with anxiety. The results indicate six types of suggestive language used in hypnosis: suggestions, commands, prohibitions, statements, expressions of praise, and questions. Suggestive language, in the form of questions, encourages reflection and internal decision-making in the Client, without issuing direct commands, in accordance with direct and indirect non-literal speech acts. Suggestive language in the form of questions highlights a linguistic gap between conventional theory and hypnotherapy practice, opening new avenues for development in pragmatics and applied linguistics, particularly in therapeutic communication.
Oktavianus OktavianusSisca Oktri SantiFajri Usman

http://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/115

Children struggling with neurocognitive impairment frequently experience limitations in attention, working memory, and information retrieval. These conditions contribute to low learning engagement and difficulty retaining material in learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) within inclusive classroom settings. This conceptual review applies Information Processing Theory (Atkinson & Shiffrin, 1968; Baddeley, 2017) to examine these cognitive challenges through three core stages: encoding, storage, and retrieval. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach, the study reviews 20 sources published predominantly between 2015 and 2025, comprising Scopus-indexed international research and relevant Indonesian studies. The synthesis identifies practical EFL strategies that can support students with neurocognitive impairment: (1) multisensory input combined with schema activation to strengthen encoding; (2) chunking paired with spaced repetition to improve storage and consolidation; and (3) retrieval practice using children’s songs with missing lyrics and pictures and pragmatic contexts to boost retrieval and engagement. These strategies are feasible for inclusive settings. The review highlights the need for empirical intervention studies and targeted teacher training to effectively bridge cognitive psychology and inclusive EFL education
Indah EtikaNeviyarni Suhaili

http://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/118

This study investigates the types and functions of sarcasm in Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, a talk show that blends humor and political commentary. Sarcasm is a rhetorical strategy often used to express irony, ridicule, and criticism, allowing speakers to indirectly highlight contradictions while engaging audiences through humor. Despite its frequent use in media discourse, few studies have systematically analyzed sarcasm in international political talk shows. Therefore, this research aims to examine the types and functions of sarcasm in John Oliver’s program. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with an intralingual approach. Data were collected from five purposively selected episodes aired between May 2024 and May 2025. The episodes were transcribed, and sarcastic utterances were identified, coded, and classified using Camp’s (2011) theory of sarcasm types and Keraf’s (2008) framework of functions. The findings reveal 44 sarcastic utterances, dominated by propositional and illocutionary types, with comparison as the most frequent function. These results suggest that sarcasm in Last Week Tonight serves a dual role: entertaining viewers while functioning as a rhetorical device to criticize social and political issues.
Yulia Ssa'addahDian Purnama Sari

2025-12-292025-12-29102789410.55345/stba1.v10i2.117AN ANALYSIS OF SATIRICAL EXPRESSION USED IN THE 2024 WEST SUMATRA GUBERNATORIAL DEBATE
http://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/119

Satire is an expression or sentence used to indirectly mock someone or something. This study aims to find out the types of satirical expressions used in the 2024 West Sumatra Gubernatorial Debate. This is due to the fact that the opponents of the West Sumatra Gubernatorial Debate often used satirical expressions during the debate session. The satire utterances were classified based on the theory of Abrams and Harpham (2015), which divides satire into two types: direct (Horatian and Juvenalian) and indirect (Menippean). This study was qualitative descriptive and collected the data by using non-participant observation. The data were analyzed using the intralingual padan method, which involves form testing and context testing. The data were taken from the transcription of the 2024 West Sumatra Gubernatorial Debate. The debate for the election was held twice. This research found all types of satire in the 2024 West Sumatra Gubernatorial Debate. There are 47 data of satire which 17 categorized as Horatian, 25 categorized as Juvenalian, and 5 categorized as Menippean satire. These findings indicate that satire functioned not only as a rhetorical strategy but also as a form of verbal attack in the context of political campaigns and also to undermine opponents' capabilities.
Nadhira Dwi PrastiwiAndry Azhari

http://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/116

This study examines Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan as the object of analysis. It portrays the psychological struggles of Nina Sayers, a ballerina who faces intense pressure to achieve perfection. The film illustrates how Nina confronts both internal conflict and external demands from her professional environment and family, reflecting the challenges of mental health in real-life experienced by individuals in competitive settings. The research applies a psychoanalytic approach to analyse the film script, employing Anna Freud’s theory on defence mechanisms, including repression, denial, reaction formation, and identification with the aggressor. The study identifies how Nina’s reliance on these mechanisms as an emotional survival strategy but gradually contributes to her psychological instability. The findings indicate that the persistent use of defence mechanisms leads Nina to rebel against her surroundings by acting in ways opposite to her true feelings, which results in her psychological breakdown. The study concludes that while defence mechanisms may temporarily protect individuals from stress, their excessive use can distort personality development. This research emphasizes the importance of recognizing the psychological impacts of pressure in high-performance environments and highlights the need for greater mental health awareness, particularly in the performing arts.
Titi MarlinaYohanes Tuaderu
