It uses a
descriptive qualitative method. The Constructive Structuralism theory by Pierre Bourdieu is
used by applying four concepts: capital, fields, structure, and strategy. This research reveals
that leaders have the right to control and manage their society. Also, the holding capital can
force the lower class to obey their order. The existence of ruler depends on the amount of
their capital and the way they compete to defend their position in society.
Natacya Sheryl Gunawan, Dian Eka Sari ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/221 Mon, 03 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0000 SYNTACTIC STRUCTURE OF THE SENTENCES IN JAMES ROSS’ THE CARD https://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/222
Determining the sentences' syntactic structure was the research's main goal. One
of the most important things to acquire in order to comprehend English is
grammatical structure. Understanding syntactic structure is crucial because
poorly structured sentences might convey the wrong meaning. Syntactic
structure aids in word recognition, guarantees that sentences flow naturally
together, and determines how words are arranged in lengthy phrases. The forms
and functions of syntactic structure employed in James Ross' The Card are the
two primary subjects of analysis in this study. This particular research is
qualitative in nature. To be more precise, the writer gathered the information
through non-participatory observation. The majority of the findings on the forms
support Seely's (2012) postulated forms of syntactic structure. Subject, verb,
object syntactic structure is the most common type. Then, the functions found
fully validate the syntactic structural functions described by Morley (2000).
Nominal function is the primary function of syntactic structure.
Cindy Therina, Yusmalinda Yusmalinda ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/222 Mon, 03 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0000 A SYNTACTIC ANALYSIS OF INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES IN COLLEEN HOOVER’S REMINDERS OF HIM https://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/223
This syntactic analysis aimed to shed light on the constructions and the functions of
interrogative sentences found in the novel Reminders of Him. This research is qualitative. The
writers collected data from the novel Reminders of Him using non-participant observation
(Suwartono, 2014). The data were analyzed using a distributional method (Sudaryanto, 2015;
Mahsun, 2017). The findings of this research principally support the categories of
constructions and functions of interrogative sentences set out by Greenbaum & Nelson
(2012) and Seaton & Mew (2007). The researchers found; 278 wh-constructions, 204 yes/no
question constructions, 65 declarative constructions, 6 alternative constructions, 3 tag
constructions, 2 rhetorical constructions, and 133 incomplete sentences. The writers also
found 316 interrogative sentences function to ask for information, 307 to ask for agreement,
57 to confirm something, and 11 functions to give options.
Rekha Mouriena, Wa’özisökhi Nazara ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/223 Mon, 03 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0000 AN ANAYLYSIS OF DIRECTIVE SPEECH ACTS IN BEAUTY AND THE BEAST MOVIE SCRIPT https://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/224
This article aimed to analyze types of directive speech act found in movie script Beauty and
the Beast. Directive speech act itself is a speech act in which speaker attempts to persuade the
hearer or partner to perform an act or do something (or not do something). The researchers
focused on type of directive speech act found in the movie script. The researchers used theory
of Searle to classify the types of directive speech act which are commanding, requesting,
inviting, forbidding, and suggesting. The researcher then marked and took a note the
utterances data found in the script. After doing this inquires about, the researchers found all
the types of directive speech act that mentioned by Searle with 59 data. The types of directive
speech act dominated in the movie script is commanding with 30 data and followed by
requesting and forbidding with 11 data each. The next is suggesting with 6 data and the least
is inviting with 1 data. The researcher hopes can add insight in the field of linguistics.
Angelisha Cornela, Dian Purnama Sari ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/224 Mon, 03 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0000 UTILIZATION OF AI IN LA TEENAGER'S LIFE: POSTHUMANISM READING IN NICOLAS JOHNSON'S MOVIE MISSING https://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/225
AI technology has spread to all social lines, especially those used by teenagers. In
this research, the researcher analyzes the use of AI by June, the main character in the
movie Missing. In this theory, the researcher focuses on transhumanism and
singularity. The researcher used qualitative methods in words, phrases, and
sentences. The result showed that the sophistication of AI technology is utilized in a
Los Angeles teenager's life, such as digital assistants, on-demand transportation, and
products and services. In addition, this research also shows that the social
relationships of teenagers are affected by technology, triggering etiquette changes
and negative assumptions from society.
Elizabeth Sitio, Melania Priska Mendrofa ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://journal.stba-prayoga.ac.id/index.php/stba1/article/view/225 Mon, 03 Jun 2024 00:00:00 +0000
